Statutory Tenancy and Rent Control

Abstract

This practice memo describes the legal and practical considerations of statutory tenancies created by operation of Cyprus Rent Control Laws in connection to buildings completed prior to 2000. It describes, inter alia, applicable law, when a statutory tenancy is created, what are the protections afforded and what are the respective rights and obligations of landlord and tenants. It goes on to list some methods used by practitioners for protection against bad tenants exploiting rent control and it lists indicative fees for statutory tenancy related legal services and support such as review and drafting of tenancy agreements.
